Massage is the manipulation of the body's soft tissues. The purpose of massage is generally for the treatment of body stress or pain.
Lymphatic drainage massage, also known as manual lymphatic drainage, relieves swelling that happens when medical treatment or illness blocks your lymphatic system. Lymphatic drainage massage involves gently manipulating specific areas of your body to help lymph move to an area with working lymph vessels.
The Graston Technique is a manual therapy that uses stainless steel instruments to perform muscle mobilization. Practitioners move the instruments over the skin to find any muscle knots, fibrous tissue or scar tissue that can cause the patient pain or restrict movement. After identifying the muscle knot or tissue, practitioners use the tools to disperse it, which rehabilitates function and mobility.

Fire cupping, which uses glass suction cups and a live fire to create suction on the skin, is an alternative, non-invasive treatment technique that uses special cups placed on the skin to encourage blood flow to damaged areas. This unique therapy is often recommended to patients who suffer from muscular pain, joint pain, skin problems, and/or respiratory disorders.
There are several supported benefits of cupping that include reduced pain, muscle tightness and inflammation, improved blood flow (circulation) and increased range of motion. The suction in the cups creates a negative pressure environment allowing for myofascial decompression as the skin is drawn into the cups. While massage therapy uses direct pressure to release tension, cupping uses negative pressure to lift the muscle fibers and draw blood to the area.
Dry cupping uses a pumping method to draw the skin tissue inside the cup. The subcutaneous tissue (the bottom layer of your skin) is pulled into the cups and held in place for a small amount of time—anywhere from 5 minutes to 15 minutes. With dry cupping, the cups can slide across the skin (dynamic) or remain in place (static).
